Precautions For Using Food Storage Containers

1. Standard plastic food storage containers should not be placed in microwaves or ovens, as high temperatures can cause the plastic to release substances harmful to human health. If you frequently use a microwave for cooking, it is best to choose containers made of polypropylene (PP). When using a dishwasher with a high-temperature sterilization cycle (around 70°C), limit the duration to 20–30 minutes; since the heating element is usually at the bottom of the dishwasher, the upper rack receives only indirect heat, making it the safer place for these containers. Although PP products are heat-resistant, prolonged heating can cause them to deform or stretch. To prevent this, if you need to use a container immediately after washing, soak it briefly in cold water first. Additionally, tempered glass containers may shatter spontaneously when exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations (sudden cold or heat).

2. Storage times vary by food type; do not rely solely on the container's airtight seal-consume the food as soon as possible. PP containers are suitable for short-term heating in a microwave but should not be used as primary cooking vessels (limit heating or defrosting times to under 3 minutes).

3. Always release the locking mechanism on the lid before placing the container in the microwave. Heating with the lid locked can cause the container to deform or burst due to pressure buildup. When microwaving foods with high oil or sugar content, rapid temperature spikes may cause the container to warp.

4. Use a soft sponge for cleaning; avoid abrasive scrubbers that could scratch the surface and cause discoloration. When cleaning the silicone gasket between the lid and the container, do not pull or stretch it forcefully, as this can cause it to snap or lose its shape.

5. Piping hot food causes air inside the container to expand, which can compromise the airtight seal; therefore, allow food to cool before storing it. The carbonation in carbonated beverages (such as sodas and colas) can compromise the airtight seal of the container; please do not store them inside.
