Using Food Storage Containers

Containers of various shapes are suitable for storing different types of items. Beyond the standard square, rectangular, and round options, there are also sets specifically designed for occasions like picnics.

Square containers feature airtight seals that help prevent flavor transfer between foods in the refrigerator; they are ideal for storing condiments, leftovers, canned goods, fruits, and vegetables. When storing leftovers, it is recommended to portion and seal the food promptly and place it in the refrigerator-avoiding room-temperature exposure for more than two hours-to inhibit bacterial growth. These containers are suitable for refrigeration, freezing, and microwave heating.

Rectangular containers are well-suited for storing items such as cured meats and fresh cuts of meat. Some models feature a drainage tray, making them convenient for storing foods with high moisture content. Large-capacity rectangular containers are excellent for storing fruits, vegetables, and seafood.

Round containers are suitable for storing condiments, canned fruit, grains, nuts, and tea leaves, and are safe for refrigeration, freezing, and microwave heating. Their shape makes them convenient for carrying beverages, milk cartons for children, grains, nuts, and tea during outdoor activities.

Tall, cylindrical containers are ideal for storing long food items like noodles or cucumbers. Due to their height, they require specific mold dimensions and manufacturing processes.

To ensure food safety and minimize waste, it is recommended to label containers holding leftovers with the storage date, making it easier to identify and consume the food in a timely manner.
