When machining a workpiece on a machine tool, the workpiece must be properly positioned (located) and securely held (clamped) before machining begins to ensure that its surfaces meet the technical specifications-such as dimensions, geometric shapes, and positional accuracy relative to other surfaces-prescribed in the engineering drawings.
